Shifting Sands? Handicapping the November Election
UNH pollster Andrew Smith will present new data and analysis about the November election at a March luncheon event.
CONCORD, N.H. – Feb. 11, 2010 – UNH pollster Andrew Smith will speak to business leaders about recent political trends and forecasts for the November election at a luncheon event to be held March 3. Presented by the Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire, in partnership with the New Hampshire Institute of Politics and the New Hampshire Republican Party*, “Shifting Sands? Handicapping the November Election” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center of New
Hampshire in Manchester. The event is sponsored by National Grid.
Smith, who is director of the University of New Hampshire’s Survey Center at Carsey Institute, will discuss new polling data and analysis completed in February and what it may mean for both major political parties in the November elections. He will address topics and questions such as:

Will the Democrats again emerge as the majority party in November?

Will the Republicans regain control of the House, Senate and/or gubernatorial seat?

What is the effect, if any, of Scott Brown’s U.S. senatorial win in Massachusetts?

How do President Obama’s federal policies influence voters in New Hampshire?

How crucial are the independent voters?

What are accurate predictors of voter behavior and turnout?
The Survey Center is a non-partisan, academic public opinion research center for governments, not-for-profits and faculty researchers. It is nationally known for its election polling and has consistently conducted the most accurate polling in New Hampshire elections. It currently conducts polls for the Boston Globe, CNN and WMUR-TV. In recent years, the Survey Center has also conducted political polls for Fox News, WCVB-TV Boston, KYW-TV Philadelphia, USA Today and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
In addition to his responsibility as director of the Survey Center, Smith is also an associate professor in the UNH Department of Political Science. His research has focused on survey methodology, elections and public policy. He was recently named one of the 25 most influential people in the New Hampshire Primary by the Boston Globe and he conducts media interviews on political issues in New Hampshire and nationwide.
